The Church venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary because she is truly the Mother of God and of Redemption, inseparably united to Christ, especially in the mystery of His Passion. Through her faith and charity, Mary is also a model for the Church and a "figure" of how to live the Gospel with hope and love. Furthermore, after the Ascension, Mary aided the beginnings of the Church with her prayers.
Her veneration, while being "special," is not adoration; rather, it is "most favorable" so that the Son may be known, loved, and glorified.
